Bengal Slow Loris, Nycticebus bengalensis is the only nocturnal primate in Bangladesh. It is nationally and globally endangered species due to massive habitat destruction, hunting and poaching. The study of nocturnal primates is difficult and requires challenging nocturnal sampling and survey methods. There is limited information on distribution, population status and ecology of Bengal Slow Loris. The Slow Loris is thought to have been reduced by about 50% in Bangladesh since the 2000s. Much of its remaining habitat is in small, isolated fragments that are shrinking rapidly. To manage their habitat and to set conservation action plans of this endangered species basic ecological data is crucial. There are huge research gaps on their ecology to understand them and their condition in nature. The objectives of this study are: (i) to determine the density and distribution of the Bengal slow loris in targeted forest patches in Bangladesh; (ii) to quantify home range and time activity patterns in different forest types; and (iii) to characterize dietary variation and habitat use patterns in different forest patches in Bangladesh. The ecological information generated through this study will help develop conservation and management strategies for the long term conservation of the species.

Saint Martin’s Island is one of the most popular destination for the tourists. But the present mode of tourism is not ecofriendly and the numbers of tourist influx surpassed the carrying capacity of the island ecosystem. Tourists throw their waste material into the sea directly that affect negatively the marine environment and its biodiversity. Marine debris resulted from human mis-acts also hampers the natural food -chain and pyramid, the process by which the seagrass/ green algae and some other micro-organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water nutrient.

The Chattogram region is characterized by a huge network of trellis and dendritic drainage consisting of some major rivers draining into the Bay of Bengal. IWM assigned Isabela foundation the task of carrying out the ecological survey of the Sangu and Matamuhuri River basin under the project entitled Feasibility Study for restoration of Sangu and Matamuhuri River Basin During 2019 and 2020. The objective of the study is to establish Ecological Baseline Information of the basin, identification of Valued Environment Components, and Assessment of impacts and mitigation plan to prepare a Biodiversity Enhancement, Conservation and Monitoring Plan for the river basin.

The task of this project is to Develop ecological/environmental profile through detail ecological data collection from six selected springs/water resources for “Detail Study for Revival or Restoration of Six Springs/Water Resources”.
