Ecological survey and investigation for Karnaphuli River Basin (with Halda River)

IWM assigned Isabela foundation the task of Baseline Ecological Survey and Investigation of Karnaphuli River Basin (with Halda River) under the project entitled “Feasibility Study for Restoration of Karnaphuli River Basin (with Halda River). 

These River systems are producer of ecological water and the vast natural renewable resources including zoo plankton phytoplankton, algae, macro benthos, hundreds of species of aquatic Coelenterate, Porifera, Nematodes, Helminthes, Mollusks, Crustaceans, Arthropods, Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, Aves and Mammals. Chattagram Hill Tracts and Coast is one of the Hotspots of Bangladesh Delta Plan (BDP), 2100. As the river Karnaphuli flow through this Hotspot, the contribution of this study project may be considered significantly to achieve the goal of Delta Plan. Under this circumstance, a comprehensive study is required on Karnaphuli river basin including Halda River and Kaptai dam to identify the interventions to make this basin more active.

The overall objective of the study is to early out a holistic and integrated study for development of Karnaphuli river basin improvement plan considering technical, environmental, social and economic aspects.
